Series includes ‘Kinky Boots,’ ‘Newsies’

PlayhouseSquare’s 2014-15 KeyBank Broadway Series, announced Tuesday, includes several Tony Award-winning productions, including “Kinky Boots,” which was named Best Musical (2013), “Pippin” (2013 Best Revival) and “Newsies” (2012 Best Choreography and Best Original Score).

Here is the schedule:

“Motown, the Musical” (Oct. 3-19): The true story of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy’s journey from boxer to the music mogul who launched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson.

“Newsies” (Nov. 4-16): Disney’s high-energy explosion of song and dance.

“Irving Berlin’s White Christmas” (Dec. 2-14): The classic holiday movie comes to the stage.

“Pippin” (Feb. 3-15): The story of a young prince on a death-defying journey to find meaning in his existence. Will he choose a happy but simple life? Or will he risk everything for a singular flash of glory. The revival features choreography in the style of Bob Fosse and breathtaking acrobatics.

“Dirty Dancing” (March 3-22): Based on the movie about two young people from different worlds who come together during a challenging and triumphant summer.

“Kinky Boots” (April 7-19): The inspirational story of a shoe-factory owner who turns his business around with help from Lola, a fabulous entertainer in need of some sturdy stilettos. Score by Cyndi Lauper.

“Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (July 21-Aug. 2): A contemporary take on the classic tale.
