Woman ordered to replace $113K she stole from grandfather's Trumbull County estate
WARREN
A North Ridgeville, Ohio, woman was sentenced Tuesday to six months in the Trumbull County jail after pleading guilty to stealing $112,743 from the estate of her elderly grandfather around the time he died.
Sandy G. Hayton, 49, pleaded guilty earlier in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to felony theft from an elderly person for removing money from her grandfather’s estate by obtaining a false or forged power of attorney, prosecutors said.
She committed the thefts from April 2009 to June 2010. Her grandfather, of North Bloomfield, was 90 years old when he died in May 2009. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Judge Andrew Logan ordered her to make restitution for the stolen funds.
