St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, 4955 Glenwood Ave., Boardman, sponsors Seafood Fest.

When: 5 to 8 p.m. Fridays through April 11. For takeout, call 330-788-7785 after 4:30 p.m.

On the menu: Among items offered are Taste of the Sea with shrimp, scallops, calamari and mussels on pasta; fried shrimp, smelts and calamari; crab phyllo rollup with bisque sauce; shrimp souvlaki pita sandwich; seafood pastitsio (like lasagna with shrimp); and baked and fried fish. Sides include Greek salad, French fries, green beans and rice. Rice pudding also is available.

Customer comments: Last Friday, Melina Fusillo of Canfield and her daughter, Kenna, were among seafood-loving diners. “I really liked the salmon,” Kenna Fusillo said. “The food is really good,” added her mother. At the same table were Mary Ann Pusateri of Boardman, who said she comes to the fest a couple of times during Lent. “I love it,” she said, adding the rice pudding is a favorite. Her friend, Nancy Kittle of Boardman, added, “This is different, and the food is good.” Lynn Hoffman of Youngstown, who came in for takeout, said he “loved everything here.” Hoffman continued that he’s “learned a lot of words for different foods” and a bit about Greek culture. Hoffman said he appreciates the “amazing” cultural diversity of the Mahoning Valley.
