Accident on I-680

YOUNGSTOWN

Travelers along Interstate 680 northbound, near the Connecticut and Belle Vista avenues exit, were rerouted off the highway for about an hour Tuesday afternoon after an accident. The accident, in which no serious injuries were reported, involved a truck and a Cadillac, Youngstown police said.

Bridge work to start

LISBON

Work is set to begin Monday to replace the bridge decks on state Route 11 north of Lisbon in Columbiana County. One 11-foot lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction just north of Church Hill Road.

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s contractor for the $1.7 million project is A.P. O’Horo Co. of Youngstown, and the completion date is Oct. 31.

Enrollment planned

McDONALD

Kindergarten Round-Up for McDonald schools students and open-enrollment students is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon April 12 at Roosevelt Elementary School, 410 W. 7th St.

Parents must bring these items: original birth certificate, Social Security card, proof of residence and shot records.

Women sentenced

WARREN

A North Ridgeville, Ohio, woman was sentenced Tuesday to six months in the Trumbull County jail after pleading guilty to stealing $112,743 from the estate of her elderly grandfather around the time he died.

Sandy G. Hayton, 49, pleaded guilty earlier in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to felony theft from an elderly person for removing money from her grandfather’s estate by obtaining a false or forged power of attorney, prosecutors said.

She committed the thefts from April 2009 to June 2010. Her grandfather, of North Bloomfield, was 90 years old when he died in May 2009. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Judge Andrew Logan ordered her to make restitution for the stolen funds.

Recovery coaches

WARREN

Recovery coaches are now available at the Sahara Club II, 2345 Youngstown Road SE. The program is free and open to the public on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m.

“Recovery Coaches are peers that are in long-term recovery themselves, and will help an individual to overcome barriers in their path to a life in recovery,” said Chad Wiltrout of the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, one of the coaches.

Coaches are not therapists and will not offer counseling, therapy or other clinical services.

Volunteers needed

WARREN

Warren SOUP is seeking project presenters, donors and volunteers for the next SOUP event May 2. SOUP seeks people with a creative project that will positively affect Warren. Deadline for proposals is April 18.

Each presenting group gets four minutes to present, and the diners will be allowed two minutes for follow-up questions.

No technology is allowed for presentations, but presenters are encouraged to be creative. Diners will vote after all the presentations are finished, and the winner will be announced at the end of the evening. They will be presented with the proceeds from that evening’s event.

Fire destroys house

YOUNGSTOWN

A fire destroyed a vacant house on the city’s North Side.

The fire department received a call at midnight Tuesday about a fire at 416 Lora Ave. that had spread to all three floors of the house. The house didn’t have any windows or a door. Firefighters went inside to see if anyone was in the house. No one was inside.

As the house was heavily engulfed when firefighters arrived at 12:04 a.m., they let it burn down. The cause of the fire is under investigation but is considered suspicious.

Warren man arraigned

WARREN

Melvin V. White, 52, of Bane Street in Warren Township was arraigned Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court, charged with misdemeanor inducing panic after witnesses said he pulled out a handgun and waved it around while standing on the sidewalk near the parking lot of the CVS pharmacy on East Market Street.

A police officer went to the Sunrise restaurant next door and found White outside, matching the description of the male who the witnesses described.

White admitted he had a BB gun in his coat pocket, which officers confiscated.

Special meeting set

CAMPBELL

The Campbell school board will have a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. today in the conference room at the board office, 280 Sixth St.

Woman arraigned

WARREN

Ebony M. Boston, 33, of Bane Street in Warren Township, was arraigned Monday in municipal court on a felonious-assault charge, accused of stabbing her brother, Cortez Boston, 40, Saturday night at her home.

A judge entered a not-guilty plea for her and set bond at $25,000.

Police were called to Cortez Boston’s home on Oak Street Southwest at 7:12 p.m. and found him with stab wounds in his chest and hand.

He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Ebony Boston was booked into the Trumbull County jail Monday morning.

She also has an address in Canton.
