Harvest Moon adds an unusual look along Route 46

Something different stands out among the surrounding businesses along Vienna Avenue (state Route 46), A storefront next to a tall home, both with primitive decor hanging from their exteriors, lining the porch and placed in both front yards.
In big red letters, the name of the business, “Harvest Moon,” stands out against the tan paint.
It’s obvious the Harvest Moon Candle Co., 704 Vienna Ave., is a little different from some of the other local businesses on the thoroughfare.
As soon as the front door opens, the scent that permeates the small room makes you feel immediately at home.
Owner Rhonda Barzey proudly shows off the growing business she started three years ago. What began as a part-time craft has become a thriving business that has caused Barzey and her husband, Kingsley, to open a fifth room — formerly her craft room — with hopes of opening the house next door as a showroom.
Barzey, originally from Long Island, N.Y., relocated to Niles 15 years ago. She feels her passion for primitive decor can be pinpointed to her upbringing.
“My father was a builder and a candle maker. I’ve always been into this,” Barzey said. The shop also offers a variety of homemade soaps, candles, potpourri and room sprays.
The homey feel is unforgettable and is worth the drive down this well-traveled route where the primitive look is not a common sight.
