Pa. inmate sent Obama threat to bad address

PITTSBURGH (AP) — A convicted child molester was due in federal court on charges that he sent a threatening letter to President Barack Obama — albeit to the wrong address.

Federal prosecutors in Pittsburgh say 34-year-old Joseph Savage mailed the letter from the Fayette County Prison in October 2012, while he was awaiting trial.

The letter was sent to 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., a location two blocks away from the White House, which is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Online federal court records don’t list an attorney for Savage, and the county public defender who represented him on the child molestation charges did not immediately return a call for comment.

Savage was scheduled to appear Monday before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh on the threat charges.

He’s serving 12 1/2 to 25 years in state prison on the molestation charges.
