Loaded handgun found in car during traffic stop

CAMPBELL

A 21-year-old Youngstown man now faces charges of carrying concealed weapons and having weapons while under disability — a fourth-degree felony and a third-degree felony, respectively — after police found a loaded handgun in his car during a traffic stop late Friday.

Jermaine William Tarver, of Kendis Circle, was also cited for failing to have a rear license plate light, and is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Police stopped Tarver on McCartney Road shortly before 9 p.m. Friday. During the traffic stop, an officer noticed what appeared to be marijuana residue on the floor of the car, along with a small, torn plastic baggie near that area. A search of the car then produced the loaded .38-caliber, revolver-style handgun.

Tarver was placed under arrest, and police later discovered that he had a history of felony charges, including kidnapping and carrying a concealed weapon.

The handgun was confiscated by police as evidence.
