Bar association foundation offers scholarships

The Mahoning County Bar Association Foundation is accepting applications for scholarships to attend law school. The bar foundation is the charitable arm of the bar association, and has awarded scholarships to law students for more than 25 years. Scholarships typically range from $1,000 to $2,000. The foundation has several scholarships to award. The most recent scholarship awarded was created by Atty. Daniel L. Rossi. In addition to general scholarships awarded by the foundation, there are scholarships in memory of Atty. Irwin I. Kretzer, Atty. Harlan Small and Atty. Robert J. Boyd and a Professionalism Scholarship.

Scholarship applications are available by calling the bar association at 330-746-2933 or by emailing mcarroll@mahoningbar.org. They also are available by contacting Paul A. Sracic, in Youngstown State University’s Political Science Department, at 330-941-3436. Applications must by received by May 23, and recipients will be recognized at the annual election banquet scheduled for June 30.

Litch Scholarship

The Deputy John “Sonny” Litch Memorial Scholarship is available to students of Croatian/Hungarian heritage who will be attending a Catholic high school or any university beginning in 2014. The scholarship is for $1,000. Applications are available by contacting The Scholarship Committee, c/o Darlene Litch, 623 Matawan Ave., Campbell 44405, or by calling 330-750-6104. Next Monday is the deadline to apply, and the winner will be notified by April 15.
