Columbus police say an officer shot a man who was armed with a knife.

Police say 23-year-old Timothy Slaughter was shot in the leg about 5 a.m. Saturday. They say officers were responding to a call from a woman who said a man approached her and a friend and reached into his pocket as if he had a weapon. The woman told police she believed the man was trying to rob someone.

Police say Slaughter matched the suspect’s description and fled when he saw the officers.
