A Green Township man charged with raping a 9-year-old girl for several years was indicted on a direct presentment Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury.

Robert Seman, 45, of West Calla Road, was indicted on four counts of rape, which carry maximum sentences of life in prison, and four counts of gross sexual imposition.

He is expected to be arraigned before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum on those charges in common pleas court later this month.

Seman turned himself in to police about 3 a.m. Saturday after the victim’s mother had contacted police March 10 to say Seman had been abusing her daughter for several years, Goshen police said.

The county children services board also assisted in the investigation, and Seman’s 2-year-old child was removed from his custody. A warrant was issued for Seman on March 14, but when police went to his home about 1:20 p.m. to arrest him, he was not there.

Police were able to contact Seman by phone to make arrangements for him to turn himself in.

Seman was arraigned in Mahoning County Area Court in Sebring on Wednesday and is in the Mahoning County jail in lieu of $350,000 bond.

Should he make bond, he would be placed on electronic monitoring with work release privileges, according to court records.
