Motivational speaker Barbara Smith of Girard was the speaker for the Feb. 10 meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown.

After spending many years with Campfire Girls and other community service projects, Smith has created a series of talks that work against bullying and improving self esteem, mentioning topics such as “L is for leader, not loser” and “Hero in the Mirror” which she takes to preschools and elementary schools. Smith also works in religious settings.

Two Austintown Fitch juniors will represent Austintown Rotary at the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Award seminar in Warren from Feb. 21-23. Chosen for the honor are Chad Holmes and Alexis Saunders.

Holmes is the son of Scot and Donna Holmes, and is active in Interact, cross country and track and the food ministry at his church. Saunders is the daughter of Natasha Saunders, and is a member of Interact, golf and Spanish Club.

They will be part of 100 area juniors from various schools in Northeast Ohio who will learn a variety of new skills from speakers and awareness activities during the weekend.
