Project Mayhem set for March 21
In 2006 the Boardman Orchestra Program decided to create a new type of ensemble. Modeled after the Trans-Syberian Orchestra, they began working on Boardman’s very own Rock Orchestra which the students titled “Project Mayhem.”
On March 21 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center, Project Mayhem will take the stage. Tickets are $5 and are available the night of the show starting at 6 p.m. and doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
“This really is a great show for the whole family and definitely a Friday evening well spent,” said Stadium Drive teacher Gina Hammerton.
Project Mayhem will be performing rock n’ roll classics from the 70s, 80s, and 90s as well as popular songs of today.
This year’s set list includes “Roar” by Katy Perry, “Too Close” by Alex Clare, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, and “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction.
Some oldies that they will be performing are “Living on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi, “Carry on my Wayward Son” by Kansas, “Separate Ways” by Journey, and more. In addition to the usual instrumental selections, there will be some student vocalists this year.
“Project Mayhem is an all around awesome experience for people of any age group. I know that this year is going to rock,” says Maria Joseph, current senior electric violinist and a veteran of the Rock Orchestra.
“Musically, the Mayhem’s performance is always entertaining, to say the least, however, why it transcends your typical concert stems from the raw energy of the musicians up on stage. The performers don’t just play their instruments, they themselves are putting on a show for the audience,” says Bill Amendol, assistant Orchestra Director and director in charge of Project Mayhem.
Lightwave International from Pittsburgh will be coming again to create a laser show throughout the concert. Lightwave produces shows for groups such as Pink Floyd and Korn.
