BOARDMAN — A 27-year-old Boardman man is still recovering from being shot four to five times Thursday night.
Police said the man had surgery and his condition at this point is unknown.
Police were called to Afton Avenue at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
When they arrived, they located the victim at the intersection of Cook Avenue and Evans Avenue.
The victim told police he was walking southbound on South Avenue in front of a car wash when an unknown black male came up to him, according to a police report.
The victim asked the man for a cigarette and the male reached into his pocket and pulled out a pistol. The victim was able to get to a phone to call for help after he was shot.
Police observed four gunshot wounds in the victim's body, two of which were in his back and two other on the left side of his torso, according to a police report. Police were unable to determine if there were any exit wounds.

Officers do have a description of a car that was in the area at the time of the shooting, Nichols said.
