Philly building collapse site will be park

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The site of a building collapse that killed six people in downtown Philadelphia will be turned into a memorial park.

Mayor Michael Nutter says the Salvation Army is donating the corner lot for the project.

City Treasurer Nancy Winkler has led the drive to build a park to honor the victims, including her 24-year-old daughter, Anne Bryan.

Two demolition contractors are charged with murder in the June 5 deaths inside a Salvation Army thrift store. More than a dozen others were injured.

Prosecutors say the contractors were skirting safety rules when they demolished a building next door, leading a huge brick wall to collapse on the thrift store.

Organizers hope to raise funds for the park in time for the anniversary in June.
