First Detector Training
When: Thursday, 1-4 p.m.
Where: Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.
What: Help us protect our farms and natural areas from exotic, invasive species. First Detectors are part of the National Plant Diagnostic Network and the Ohio Plant Diagnostic Network. First Detector training promotes awareness and detection of new or emerging plant pest threats to Ohio’s rural and urban agricultural or natural systems. Participants will receive certificate at the end of the program.

Creating with Herbs
When: Saturday, 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Fellows Riverside Gardens, 123 McKinley Way, Youngstown.
What: Mandy Smith will guide you on how to use herbs and other natural ingredients to make salves, creams and lip balms, each of which you will take home. Enjoy herbal infusions and other treats as you learn self-care for yourself and your family.

VEGETABLE Growing
When: Monday, noon to 2 p.m.
Where: at Flying High Inc., 6 Federal Plaza Central, Suite 705 in the Chase Bank Building, downtown Youngstown.
What: We’ll review the best practices for growing, from dates for starting seeds through harvest. Participants will learn about opportunities with the GROW Youngstown Community Supported Agriculture project.

FRUIT PRODUCTION
When: March 26, 1-4 p.m.
What: Backyard fruit production is the focus of a morning program at the OSU Extension Office in Canfield. Participate in an interactive program with Eric Barrett as you learn about the basics of producing good fruit in your backyard.

All About Dahlias
When: March 26, 6-8 p.m.
What: Dahlias are striking and brilliant members of the Aster family that truly do come in a variety of sizes, forms and colors. Learn about the dahlia plant, how to identify varieties, and ways to care for your dahlias with Master Gardeners Stan and Linda Vuletich. Each participant will take home a dahlia tuber.
