Township police arrested two men on drug trafficking and other charges after they searched the men’s apartments.

Brian Malysa, 30 and Akira Jackson, 31, are accused of committing the offenses in the same Stadler Avenue apartment complex.

Jackson is charged with trafficking in heroin in the vicinity of a juvenile, illegal possession of weapons, possession of cocaine, possession of drug-abuse instruments and paraphernalia.

Malysa is charged with possession of heroin, cultivating marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs, two counts of possession of Schedule 3 drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Search warrants were issued Monday for both Malysa’s and Jackson’s apartments, and police executed the searches early Tuesday.

Jackson told officers he had suspected heroin, a scale, a gun and a bullet-proof vest in the apartment. Officers also found in their search of the apartment a .40-caliber pistol with a full magazine and a round in the chamber, a hypodermic syringe, a plastic bag containing suspected cocaine and an undetermined amount of money.

There was a small child in the apartment, and a woman told police she and her 16-year-old daughter also live with Jackson in the apartment.

In Malysa’s apartment, police found a scale, a brown powder that tested positive for heroin, a razor blade with residue, 13 suspected marijuana plants, a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana, grow light bulbs, a marijuana pipe, three capsules, two tablets and different pills.

Malysa, who is in Mahoning County jail, will be arraigned at 5:30 p.m. today in county court here. Court records for Jackson were not updated late Wednesday.
