Mathews school board reaches agreement with nonteaching workers

VIENNA — Mathews Board of Education has reached a tentative contract agreement with the union representing the district’s 30 nonteaching employees.

Superintendent Lewis Lowery said the employees, members of Local 611 of the Ohio Association of Public School Employees, are scheduled to vote on the package March 27. Lowery declined to reveal agreement specifics, and messages left for the OAPSE field representative for the local were not returned.

The union, composed of custodians, bus drivers and cafeteria workers, had issued a 10-day strike notice for March 14 but withdrew it after reporting progress after a federal mediator-led bargaining session last week. The union had continued to work under its previous contract, which expired last summer.
