YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested two men at a brawl at a West Side apartment complex late Monday and then found bullet holes in their home a couple of hours later.

Officers were called to 2600 Tyrell Ave. about 10:15 p.m. for a report of a large fight with gunfire, and when they arrived, there were at least 20 people outside, reports said.

Witnesses told police a man was firing shots and gave a description of a man who was supposed to be firing a gun. They found Joseph Lightfoot, 22, of Oxford Street, who matched the description, running across a parking lot as witnesses screamed he was firing the shots.

He was caught by police, and when he was searched, officers found a .22-caliber revolver on him, reports said.

A woman at the scene said Lightfoot and another man, Joseph Jenkins, 44, also of Oxford Street, who reports said is Lightfoot’s father, and two women tried to get into his sister’s apartment to retrieve some belongings. The sister was not there, and the woman would not let them in, reports said.

The woman said Jenkins tried to force his way in and pulled the woman’s hair, and when the sister arrived, Jenkins held her on the ground and hit her with a gun, reports said.

Jenkins was arrested on a charge of felonious assault.

In later questioning, Lightfoot said he found the gun and picked it up because there was gunfire in the area, reports said.

Lightfoot was charged with felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. Both men were given a gunshot-residue test before being taken to the Mahoning County jail, reports said.

Just before 1 a.m. police were called to the Oxford Street home both men listed as their address, after the women with Lightfoot and Jenkins returned home and discovered two bullet holes in a wall, reports said.

Reports said officers also were called to the neighborhood about two hours earlier for a gunfire call but could find nothing.

No one was injured.
