Oil leak found in SW Ohio nature preserve

CINCINNATI (AP) — Environmental protection officials say a pipeline leaked oil for about a mile down a stream in a wetlands area in southwest Ohio.

Authorities say the pipeline has been shut off and the leak contained in the area of a nature preserve. An Ohio Environmental Protection Agency spokeswoman says a wetland of about one acre has been affected by oil.

Authorities say residents in the area aren’t in danger from the leak reported Monday night.

There were no reports immediately of injuries to wildlife. Rangers in the Oak Glen Nature Preserve were checking out the leak area today.

The Mid-Valley Pipeline Co. pipeline runs nearly 1,000 miles from Texas to Michigan and is largely owned by Sunoco Logistics. A Sunoco spokesman says the company plans a statement later today.
