YOUNGSTOWN

April 18 is the deadline to enter the YWCA of Youngstown’s Stand Against Racism: Celebrate Diversity Poster Contest, which is open to elementary, middle-school and high-school students in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

Contestants are encouraged to use large lettering, few words, heavy lines and strong colors. All artwork must be drawn horizontally (landscape) on white paper 8.5-by-11-inch wide (standard-sized copy paper).

Students may use crayon, watercolor, poster paint, colored pencils, markers or ink but may not attach or glue materials that may smear, crack or chip. Contestants must work independently.

Artwork will not be returned. It will remain the property of the YWCA of Youngstown and may be reproduced.

Artwork should be mailed to: YWCA of Youngstown, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown, OH 44503, and should include the contestant’s name, grade, school and contact information.

The YWCA of Youngstown Stand Against Racism committee will judge the artwork on creativity and representation of the theme. There will be a winner chosen in each age category and an overall best-in-show prize. Also, the winning piece will be featured in the YWCA 2014 annual report.

Each contestant will receive a certificate of participation. Winners will be announced April 25 at the Stand Against Racism event at Kilcawley Center, Youngstown State University, at which the posters will be displayed.

For information, call Varada Bhide at 330-746-6361.

Major sponsors for the event are Mahoning Valley Sojourn to the Past, Youngstown City Schools, YSU’s Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, the James and Coralie Centofanti Center for Health and Welfare for Vulnerable Populations and the Office of Student Diversity at YSU.
