The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Lisbon Post is investigating a one-vehicle crash that killed one person Friday evening.

A 1999 Chevrolet Lumina was traveling east on U.S. Route 62 about 11:15 p.m. when it went off the right side of the road, striking a ditch. The car overturned, ejecting both people from the vehicle.

Brooke Penick, 25, of Salem, was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. Stephen W. Bell. 27, of Salem, was flown by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.

Neither Penick nor Bell was wearing a seat belt. OSHP is investigating to verify who was driving the car at the time of the crash.

Good Friday event

The Spiritual Emphasis Committee of the YMCA will sponsor the annual Good Friday breakfast and service April 18 at the Central YMCA, 17 N. Champion St.

Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Greg Maturi, pastor of St. Dominic Church. Music will be provided by Joselyn Parker, Central Y’s youth and teen director.

A breakfast buffet will be served at 7:15 a.m. with the program at 8 in the community gym on the second floor. The program concludes at 8:45.

Reservations for tables and individual tickets of $12 may be obtained at the metro office at the Central YMCA or by calling 330-742-4781. Deadline is April 9.

Last year, nearly 500 people attended the annual event.

Assault reported

A 54-year-old man told police he was walking to church Sunday morning with another man when the other man assaulted him and stole $300 from him. The victim told police the two were walking along West Philadelphia Avenue, and the other man fled west on Philadelphia after the assault.

Body discovered

The body of an Ellwood City man was discovered Sunday afternoon outside a neighbor’s residence.

Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle report that Shawn Eric Harper, 41, appeared to have been deceased for several hours, and there was no indication of foul play. An autopsy is scheduled at Heritage Valley Medical Center in Beaver, Pa.

A 36-year-old Enon Valley man was killed Sunday evening when the tractor he was riding flipped and rolled onto him.

Robert Lewis Mattocks III was using the tractor to pull logs in a wooded area north of 1401 Mud Bridge Road shortly before 8 p.m. The front of the tractor flipped up and rolled on top of Mattocks, trapping him, according to a release from the Pennsylvania State Police in New Castle.

The Lawrence County coroner pronounced Mattocks dead.

No one was injured in a blaze that damaged a Sixth Street home early Sunday.

The cause remains under investigation.
