Police have little evidence available in a hit-and-run that left a Girard man injured, said a Liberty detective.

Detective Tom Couche said Friday that all police have is a side mirror from the car that hit David Blair, 21, as he was walking on Church Hill-Hubbard Road toward Girard around 4 a.m. Sunday.

“We’re going to do everything we can, but it’s one of those cases — I think it’s going to be tough to get any information,” Couche said.

Blair was on the state Route 11 overpass when he was struck. He said he was looking down at his phone; he never saw the car coming, and he can’t describe it.

Blair said he sat up in the snow after he was struck and then went to find help. He went to a house just past the bridge, and the homeowner called an ambulance.

“We found the mirror in the area where he fell, so I do believe we have debris from the car that hit him,” Couche said.

Couche said he will give the mirror to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, likely the Southington post, so they can try to find out what kind of car it’s from.

“They tend to access more information when it comes to finding a car from a piece that was left behind,” he said.

He said it might be hard to narrow down what year and model the mirror is from.

“We may get lucky. The mirror might be specific to a make, model and year,” he said.

Blair was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center and released Monday evening. His injuries include a broken ankle, a sprained knee, bruises and road rash.
