lenten programs At Valley churches


Hubbard Christians in Action: The group will sponsor the Community Lenten Luncheons from noon to 1 p.m. at churches in Hubbard. The cost is $6. Lunch is first followed by a message by the host pastor, song and prayer. Programs planned are: Wednesday, Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Hall Ave., cook’s choice; March 26, Cornerhouse Christian Church, 6954 Chestnut Ridge Road SE, chicken dinner; April 2, First Presbyterian Church, 22 Westview Ave., pasta and meatballs; and April 9, First United Methodist Church, 48 Church St., cook’s choice. Chuck Hudak is chairman of HCIA. His wife, Susie, is luncheon coordinator.

Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4500 Norquest Boulevard, Austintown: Rev. Dr. James M. Daprile, will speak on “Mary at the Foot of the Cross,” a presentation of art, scripture and tradition, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the parish center. Father Daprile, pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Aurora, has taught at Walsh University and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. He also has lectured at Chautauqua Institution in New York and the Hamilton Forum in Canton. The public is welcome to the event which includes the presentation, prayer and Lenten refreshments.

St. Charles Borromeo Church, 7345 Westview Drive, will host television actor Frank Runyeon in a “Sermon on the Mount” presentation followed by “Hollywood vs. Faith” discussion in the church. The event will be at 6:30 p.m. March 23 as part of the Lenten mission. Runyeon has performed Biblical texts to thousands of people for some 20 years. He won two Emmy Awards as a cast member of the soap opera “Santa Barbara.” The Rev. Nicholas Shori, director of Office of Evangelization at the Diocese of Youngstown, will speak at 7 p.m. March 24. The Rev. Gerald DeLucia, president of Cardinal Mooney High School, will speak at 7 p.m. March 25. All three speakers will be in the church sanctuary.

Touch of Heaven Church, 10 Skyline Drive, Canfield: A New Testament Passover meal is planned from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 12 with teaching by Pastor Frank Amedia and worship music by Paul Wilbur. Cost is $30; limited seating. Call 330-286-3524.
