The Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities has a special meeting at 6 p.m. today at Leonard Kirtz School, 4801 Woodridge Drive. At the meeting, the board will convene into executive session to discuss personnel issues. At the conclusion of the executive session, the board may or may not take action.

Police investigate case of forged checks

AUSTINTOWN

Township detectives are investigating a case of forged checks totaling more than $125,000.

A 70-year-old township resident was reviewing his business records and found that when he sold a business in 2005 three checks were written to him but cashed by an unidentified person, according to a police report filed Wednesday.

The first two checks, totaling $70,000, were from a law firm on Front Street in Youngstown. The third check, for $55,567.34, was from a land-title agency.

Niles man jailed on burglary charge

WARREN

A 30-year-old Niles man is in Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond, charged with aggravated burglary after a 29-year-old Peace Avenue Northwest woman reported he broke into her house Wednesday morning and assaulted her.

The woman said Matthew S. Burroughs, of Royal Mall Drive, is the father of her child. He came into her house without permission while she was taking out the garbage, she said.

When she came back inside, he was waiting for her and struck her a couple of times in the face, threw her to the floor and threatened to kill her. He then took items out of her purse, she said.

Police arrested Burroughs in Warren on a warrant about noon, two hours after the alleged incident.

Football team joins March for Meals

WARREN

The Warren G. Harding High School football team is joining Trumbull Mobile Meals in the March for Meals Mall Walk at the Eastwood Mall on Saturday.

The team is challenging all Trumbull County football teams and cheerleaders to also participate.

Registration begins at 7:45 a.m., and the walk is from 8:15 to 9 a.m. The individual who raises the most money will receive a $100 Eastwood Mall gift card. The team that raises the most money will receive a pizza party. For information, call 330-394-2538.
