Appellate court: Indicted Ohio judge's ruling unconscionable

CINCINNATI (AP) — An appeals court has called a decision by an Ohio judge to take away two children from their mother “unconscionable.”

The court’s ruling came in a case overseen by Judge Tracie Hunter of Hamilton County Juvenile Court, who isn’t currently allowed to oversee cases as she faces criminal charges on accusations she misused county credit cards and backdated court documents. She has pleaded not guilty.

Ohio’s 1st District Court of Appeals says that although Judge Hunter found potential error with a ruling to remove a Cincinnati woman’s children from her custody, she still upheld the decision, citing “undue time restraints.”

That came after the case was on Judge Hunter’s desk for 11 months.

The court’s decision today reversed an October ruling by Judge Hunter.

Judge Hunter’s attorney, Clyde Bennett, declined to comment.
