A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
March 3
Harassment: A township woman reported having been harassed.
March 6
Identity fraud: A Woodland Drive man reported his identity had been compromised.
BOARDMAN
March 5
Theft: Frank J. Maggiano, 36, was charged with stealing a $200 speaker from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive. Maggiano, of Fifth Street, Struthers, also was wanted on a Warren warrant charging theft.
Menacing: A manager with a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant told officers a man threatened him with bodily harm when the accuser asked the man, who had been yelling profanities at customers, to leave.
Theft: Two $129 electronic tablets were stolen from Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 381 Boardman-Poland Road.
Domestic violence: A charge was pending against a man after a South Schenley Avenue woman alleged that while intoxicated, he tossed a food item, striking her head.
Theft: Austintown police handed Michael J. Kohut III of Bonair Avenue, Youngstown, to township authorities. Kohut, 37, was accused of stealing an $85 pair of women’s shoes from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.
Attempted burglary/menacing: Someone tried to break into an apartment in the 5000 block of Forest Park Place. Also, a woman reported having received a threatening email.
Theft: A man in his mid- to late 20s and a woman in her mid-20s took a $4 item from Once Upon a Child, 400 Boardman-Poland Road.
Misuse of a credit card: Michael A. Slepski, 44, of Mathews Road, Boardman, faced one felony count each of misuse of a credit card and receiving stolen property after a Boardman woman discovered her stolen debit card had been used to make $576 worth of fraudulent charges.
Fraud: A Reserve Court man told police a caller claiming the accuser has three felony warrants for his arrest on income-tax-related charges instructed him to wire $2,900 or be arrested.
Burglary: At a residence in the 7000 block of West Boulevard through a side door, where a duplicate key was apparently used. Stolen was $50.
Menacing: An Edenridge Drive woman said a student at Boardman Glenwood Middle School, 7635 Glenwood Ave., has been harassing and threatening her 14-year-old son.
Possible drugs: Police received a complaint about possible marijuana use in a Lemans Drive apartment, though they found no evidence, a report showed.
Theft: A man in his mid-40s removed a bottle of liquid gel from Family Dollar, 4028 Market St.
Bad check: A man bought $226.50 worth of merchandise from Family Video, 5205 Market St., with a check returned on a closed account.
Possible theft: A license plate was lost or stolen off a motorcycle in the 60 block of Sciota Avenue.
March 6
Weapon: Police responded to a suspicious person in the 40 block of Green Bay Drive, where they charged Larail L. White, 19, of West Federal Street, Youngstown, with carrying a concealed weapon, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. White, who had a 9-inch knife in his coat pocket, refused to stop walking for police and became combative, they said.
Attempted theft: Three men reportedly broke into a vehicle in the 7000 block of Paxton Road, then fled in a red pickup truck.
Harassment: The human-resources manager of a Doral Drive big-box store told officers several employees have been getting harassing and vulgar calls.
Theft: A worker hired to clean at T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road, was reportedly caught on a surveillance camera stealing cologne and other merchandise from the store. The theft was estimated at $100.
Citation: Officers on South Avenue pulled over and cited 56-year-old Gregory P. Gallech of Madonda Drive, Boardman, on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.
Theft: A man in his 30s took a package of razors from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.
Criminal damaging: A car in the 7100 block of Amherst Avenue was found with a broken rear window.
Theft: Derae A. Lanigan of North Lakeview Avenue and Alexis A. Sigurani of North Loveless Avenue, were charged with theft and complicity to theft, respectively. The two 18-year-old Youngstown women were accused in the theft of a sweatshirt and a pair of pants from Sears in the Southern Park Mall.
Harassment: An Arden Boulevard man told authorities his teenage daughter received unwanted text messages and inappropriate photographs.
Theft: A Carter Circle woman reported the theft of a $249 electronic tablet.
March 7
Theft: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail booked Deana A.L. Jenkins of Monet Avenue, Campbell, on a theft warrant. The 27-year-old Jenkins was accused of stealing 10 articles of clothing from Babies “R” Us, The Baby Super Store, 1240 Doral Drive.
Arrest: Officers in the 100 block of East Midlothian Boulevard took 27-year-old Jennifer Y. Jones into custody. The Columbus woman was wanted on a local probation-violation charge.
Attempted burglary: A woman told police she saw a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants try to enter her apartment in the 4000 block of Hillman Way through a window.
Theft: John S. Probst of Thalia Avenue, Boardman, was charged with theft, criminal trespassing, receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools after $219 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. The 30-year-old Probst also had a 3-inch knife to open packages, a report said.
March 8
Assault: Police responded to a fight in the 5000 block of Aravesta Avenue in which one man reported having been struck and threatened.
Criminal damaging: A North Lima man alleged that while in the 6300 block of South Avenue, his former girlfriend broke his vehicle’s rear taillight and used to key to damage the finish on its hood.
Menacing: A worker for a California Avenue business reported a client implied the accuser would be harmed regarding an apparent misunderstanding related to services the company provides.
Arrest: Authorities received information about a vehicular pursuit that began in Springfield Township and continued on South Avenue before 38-year-old Charles N. Ramsey of Sigle Lane, Boardman, faced a felony charge of failing to comply with the orders of police.
Assault: Two men in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court each reported having been assaulted by the other. One was evidently knocked unconscious, a report said.
Citation: Police who had set up a checkpoint near South Avenue cited 21-year-old Joshua L. Gettings of Lourdes Lane, Campbell. He was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.
Theft: A Youngstown girl, 14, was charged with taking $112 worth of clothing from Sears.
Theft: A vehicle check near Simon Road led to 22-year-old Jerwanda M.L. Atkins’ arrest. Atkins, of Eastway Drive, Youngstown, was wanted on a Trumbull County warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a theft count.
Criminal damaging: A 15-year-old Youngstown boy faced a criminal-damaging charge after police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 900 block of East Midlothian Boulevard in which two people reported someone had thrown an object at one of the vehicles.
Arrest: A traffic stop on Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Heather Ventresco of North Raccoon Road, Youngstown. She was wanted on two warrants charging failure to appear in court.
Theft: A woman reported her purse stolen while in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road.
Counterfeit: Two women tried to pass two fake $100 bills at Dollar Tree, 541 Boardman-Poland Road.
March 9
Menacing: A Mayflower Drive woman reported someone in a silver Pontiac Grand Am intentionally drove by her home at least five times, and that she received obscene calls.
Criminal damaging: An obscenity was spray-painted on a garage door in the 100 block of Indianola Road.
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 5200 block of Old Oxford Lane drove through and damaged part of a front lawn.
Theft: A Ewing Road man reported a global-positioning-system unit stolen from his car.
Theft: Two women stole two dresses and another item from Cirilla’s, 64 Boardman-Poland Road.
March 10
Theft: Jesse R. Derflinger, 26, of Darlington, Pa., faced a felony theft count after 83 pieces of jewelry were among items stolen from Walmart. The loss was more than $1,850.
