CANFIELD

Recently at a luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Canfield, Ursuline Order nuns Sister Mary Dunn and Sister Jerome Corcoran shared their enthusiasm for two programs, Sister Jerome’s Poor and a new one, Sister Jerome’s Kids: The Next Frontier.

Donations collected for Sister Jerome’s Poor helps working poor families with emergency situations, including utility bills, groceries and school uniforms.

The newest program, Sister Jerome’s Kids: The Next Frontier, supports young people who are attending a trade school, Eastern Gateway Community College or Youngstown State University and helps them with necessary preparations.

The program has 12 high school graduates who were carefully selected. The requirements are to keep up their grades, to keep finances in order, to hold a part-time job and to obey school regulations.

Sister Mary mentors the students and gives personal assistance to them. Financial assistance consists of help with gas and food cards and sometimes clothing. Sister Jerome’s program does not pay the tuition nor give students cash. The estimated cost per student is $5,000. To contribute, the Rotary Club of Canfield presented Sister Jerome with a check for $1,000.

To learn about the programs or to donate call Sister Jerome at the Ursuline Center, 330-792-7636.
