NAACP youth council meeting is Saturday
YOUNGSTOWN — The next meeting of the local NAACP youth council will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the basement meeting room of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s main library, 305 Wick Ave.
The newly reorganized youth council invites youth in middle school and high school, regardless of age, to join the group. Youth in elementary school are also welcome to join. A separate council of elementary-age youth may be created if there is enough interest.
Topics for discussion will be the history of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the organization's current activities, and activities city youth believe needs their attention.
An opportunity to take part in an Underground Railroad event will also be presented, as well as the need for fundraising/promotional activities for the group.
The acting adviser of the Youngstown NAACP Youth Council is L.K. Williams, who can be reached by calling 330-788-1005 or by emailing naacp.yc600@gmail.com.
