Manager at Family Christian Store faces theft charge

Township police arrested a manager at the Family Christian Store, 7415 Market St., on a charge he stole approximately $3,000 from the store.

Christopher Berner, 36, of Allison Park, Pa., is charged with fifth-degree felony theft.

Police arrested Berner on Tuesday after a six-month investigation into the theft by the store’s regional loss-prevention officials.

Police said it is believed Berner was processing fake returns and pocketing money from those returns.

Berner admitted to loss- prevention that he had committed the theft, according to a police report.

He completed a detailed statement that said approximately $3,000 was taken from the store.

He also admitted pocketing money from cash transactions.

Berner posted bond after the booking process at Mahoning County jail.

He is to appear for a hearing on the charge at 5 p.m. today in Mahoning County Area Court.
