Austintown police investigating check forgery

AUSTINTOWN — Township detectives are investigating a case of forged checks totaling more than $125,000.

A 70-year-old township resident was reviewing his business records and found when he sold a business in 2005 three checks were written to him, but cashed by an unidentified person, according to a police report filed Wednesday.

The first two checks, totaling $70,000, were from a law firm on Front Street in Youngstown. The third check, for $55,567.34, was from a land title agency.
