ABC’s ‘Resurrection’ opens strong

NEW YORK

Those repeated ads about a dead boy returning to his father after 32 years struck a nerve with television viewers. They helped ABC’s new drama “Resurrection” to a strong debut.

The Nielsen ratings company says the Sunday-night debut of “Resurrection” was the most-watched show on what is generally the most-popular night of TV. The show beat even AMC’s powerhouse “The Walking Dead.”

Here are the Nielsen’s top 10 TV programs for the week of March 3-9:

1. “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS, 18.09 million; 2. “NCIS,” CBS, 17.85 million; 3. “The Voice” (Monday), NBC, 15.62 million; 4. “The Voice” (Tuesday), NBC, 14.53 million; 5. “NCIS: Los Angeles,” CBS, 14.37 million; 6. “Resurrection,” ABC, 13.9 million; 7. “The Walking Dead,” AMC, 12.65 million; 8. “Blue Bloods,” CBS, 12.03 million; 9. “The Millers,” CBS, 11.58 million; and 10. “Criminal Minds,” CBS, 11.42 million.

Day plans animal-friendly bash

LOS ANGELES

Screen legend Doris Day is celebrating a landmark birthday with an auction to benefit her favorite cause: animals.

A spokesman for Day said Tuesday the nonprofit Doris Day Animal Foundation will mark her 90th birthday in April with a bash in Carmel, Calif.

A sold-out fundraising celebration at Day’s Cypress Inn will include a doggie fashion show, adoption event and an April 4 tribute dinner for fans and friends.

Items autographed by Day and celebrity pals including Paul McCartney and Tony Bennett will be auctioned off online and at the dinner. Online bidding ends April 1.

Day was born April 3, 1924, spokesman Charley Walters said, although other sources list her birth year as 1923.
