Packard Band to present concert

The Packard Band will present “Freebirds and Wildcats” at 3 p.m. Sunday at Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW. The concert will feature guest conductor Frank Tracz and clarinet soloists Tod Kerstetter and Michael Chesher.

Admission is free.

Free program on Canada geese

Boardman

Once on the verge of extinction, Canada geese have made a remarkable recovery in much of North America. To landowners, however, they can be nuisances. Learn more about conflict management with Canada geese during a free public program from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lariccia Family Community Center, Rotary Room, Boardman Park, 375 Boardman-Poland Road.

The seminar will be led by Division of Wildlife staff who specialize in dealing with goose conflicts. Topics will include biology, ecology and population trends.The program is free, but pre-registration is required. Call Bryan Kay at 330-245-3026 or email Bryan.Kay@dnr.state.oh.us.

Pianist to perform at Thiel College

GREENVILLE, Pa.

World-renowned pianist Andre von Oeyen will perform a free concert at the David Johnson Memorial Chapel at Thiel College at 7:30 p.m. March 19.

Von Oeyen has established himself as one of the most captivating pianists of his generation. Since his debut at age 16 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, he has performed with orchestras around the world.

On July 4, 2009, von Oeyen performed at the U.S. Capitol with the National Symphony in “A Capitol Fourth,” reaching millions worldwide.

Born in the U.S. in 1979, Andrew von Oeyen began his piano studies at age 5 and made his solo orchestral debut at age 10. He is an alumnus of Columbia University and graduate of The Juilliard School.
