$10K bad check passed in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — Township detectives are trying to find the person who passed a bad check worth more than $10,000 in December 2013 at a local pawn shop.
Austintown Pawn, Mahoning Avenue, reported a bad Social Security check for $10,191.12 on Monday to police.
According to a police report, a person, whose name was redacted, cashed the check at Austintown Pawn on Dec. 9.
First National Bank notified the business Feb. 20 the check was bad because the recipient was deceased.
The check was made payable to the beneficiary of the Social Security account. The person belonging to that account died Oct. 27, 2013.
