Unique percussion ensemble to present concert

YOUNGSTOWN

Clocks in Motion, a professional percussion ensemble, will present a free recital and master class March 17 at the North Building of the Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave.

Formed in 2011, the ensemble began as an extension of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s graduate percussion group, and now serves as the ensemble in residence with the UW-Madison percussion studio.

It is comprised of musicians who are either graduates or current students at the campus.

Anthony DiSanza, a 1989 alumnus of the Dana School of Music and professor of percussion at UW-Madison, sponsored the ensemble when it first started.

The ensemble will conduct a percussion workshop from 3 to 5 p.m. and will present a concert at 8 p.m. in the Butler North, the former church building adjacent to the museum. Both events are sponsored by the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University.

Clocks in Motion, which performs new music and builds many of its own instruments, breaks down the boundaries of the traditional concert program.

The ensemble recently served as resident performers and educators at the Interlochen Arts Academy, Rhapsody Arts Center, University of Michigan, Baldwin-Wallace University, and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
