Fifth earthquake struck early this morning: USGS
POLAND — The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.1 magnitude earthquake in Poland Township today, just after 3 a.m.
It’s the fifth, the smallest and most recent seismic tremor to be recorded in Mahoning County after the area experienced four earthquakes on Monday.
USGS located the first epicenter almost directly below Carbon Limestone Landfill in Poland Township, where the oil-and-gas producer Hilcorp Energy Co. has 7 wells in various stages of production. One was actively producing.
ODNR on Monday ordered Hilcorp to suspend all activity at the site until further notice.
