Girl Scout cookies purchased with some phony dough

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif.

Officials in Southern California say someone has been buying Girl Scout cookies with counterfeit cash.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department has released photos of a woman entering and leaving a grocery store who they say is a person of interest in the case of the phony dough.

The photos show a young woman with long black hair, jeans, sneakers and a black hooded sweatshirt.

No names or other identifying details have been released.

Police in Lake Elsinore learned last week that someone had bought Girl Scout cookies outside a grocery store with counterfeit currency, and were looking for a suspect who had not been seen since.

German court: Implants are no impediment to police job

BERLIN

A German court has ruled that a prospective Berlin police recruit’s breast implants cannot legally be used as grounds to keep her off the force.

The woman applied in 2012 to join the Berlin police force, but was rejected after authorities said her breast implants would prevent her from wearing a protective vest or riot gear.

They argued the implants would mean the protective gear put so much pressure on her chest that there was a risk of fibrosis or other health problems.

But a Berlin administrative court last week upheld her challenge of the decision, saying a doctor testified that protective gear should cause no greater health problems for a woman with implants than without.

The woman’s name was not released due to German privacy rules.

Cookbook returned to library after 21-plus years

LAWRENCE, Kan.

More than two decades after a cookbook was checked out of a Kansas library, it’s just now been returned.

6NewsLawrence reported that a copy of “The Versatile Grain and the Elegant Bean: A Celebration of the World’s Most Healthful Foods” was placed in a Lawrence Public Library return box one night last week. The book had been checked out Sept. 24, 1992.

Library official Kristin Soper speculates the borrower misplaced the volume and came across it just recently. The maximum late fee in 1992 was $3; it’s now $4.50.

“The Versatile Grain and the Elegant Bean” contains more than 300 recipes from around the world.

Reviewers noted in 1992 that its publication coincided with growing U.S. interest in healthy cooking.
