Another fire occurs at Rodeway Inn

A second fire in a week has caused $30,000 in damage at the Rodeway Inn on Belmont Avenue, formerly known as the MetroPlex.

The Liberty Fire Department responded to a call at 11:57 p.m. Saturday to a fire in a room, where it was confined.

On March 3, a commercial dryer fire at the hotel caused about $75,000 in damage .

Both fires are under investigation.

On Friday, the owner of the establishment, Indira Periyasamy, evicted her employees and a family of six staying at the inn. Periyasamy relinquished her operating license with the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of State Fire Marshal. The state liquor license, which is under the name Aswin Ganapathy, also was pulled.

The owner cited the dryer fire at the hotel as the reason for her closing the business.

Drug paraphernalia

YOUNGSTOWN

Police charged Daniel L. Lacy, 56, of Youngstown with possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop at 9:49 p.m. Saturday at Overland and Delason avenues.

Lacy, a passenger, threw something under the car, police said. They recovered a crack pipe, which they logged into evidence.

Veteran to speak on US Constitution

CORTLAND

KrisAnne Hall, an attorney who speaks on the Constitution, will address the topic “The Bible, the Constitution and Freedom” during a presentation from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Doors of the Word Baptist Church, 162 S. High St.

Requested donation is $10.

Hall is a disabled veteran of the Army, serving as a Russian linguist.

Cemetery cleanup

GIRARD

Spring cleanup at Girard City Cemetery has been scheduled through March 30 for removal of Christmas decorations from graves.
