Spill on I-76 temporarily closes exit
Staff report
NORTH JACKSON
A commercial semi tractor-trailer carrying unpasteurized milk rolled over into an embankment Friday evening, spilling its contents into the Meander Reservoir and forcing the closure of the Interstate 76 eastbound exit ramp to the Ohio Turnpike.
Officials from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canfield Post said the accident occurred shortly before 6:30 p.m., and HazMat arrived on the scene not long afterward. The semi’s driver — identified as 81-year-old Robert Beaver of New Oxford, Pa. — was flown to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown to receive treatment, but OSHP had no word on his condition late Friday.
Motorists were asked to avoid the area, which was closed for about five hours after the accident.
