Guests and workers evicted from Rodeway Inn in Liberty
LIBERTY
Liberty police, fire and the state fire marshal are at The Rodeway Inn on
Belmont Avenue.
Fire Investigator Ron Stauffer said the owner, Indira Periyasamy,
voluntarily relinquished her operating license to the department of
commerce. The liquor license for the establishment under Aswin Ganapathy -
believed to be her husband - was also pulled.
"It's her building," Stauffer said. "[Now] nothing can operate."
The hotel also has a restaurant inside called "Goodies Grill and Lounge,"
which will also shutdown.
Workers of the hotel and Goodies are now homeless and left without a dime,
they told reporters. They said she owes them money and promised to pay them
before she kicked them out.
One hotel employee of six months, Sharon Ritter, was frustrated about the
situation. She had to contact the American Red Cross to try to find
somewhere to go.
"I have been running this hotel for her for six months," Ritter said.
Reporters attempted to speak with the owner, but she slammed the door and
only said "there was a fire," for her reasoning in closing the
establishment.
She cited the fire that occurred on Monday at the inn as the reason for the
closing.
A dryer fire did extensive damage to the laundry room of the hotel and will
cost about $75,000 to repair.
The fire marshal will walk through the building to make sure everyone is out
today.
"She will have to keep it secure and fire safe," Stauffer said.
