Girls track has success in competition


The Boardman girls indoor track team has competed in three meets thus far in the season.

At the first indoor meet on Feb. 9 at Youngstown State University, junior Jordan Grantonic raced to fourth place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:49.89. The 4x800 meter relay team placed fifth with a time of 11:13 and consisted of senior Kaitlyn Morrell, junior Regan O’Hara and freshmen Caitlyn Hadley and Abbey Evans. Senior Morgan Hambrick placed sixth place in the high jump with a height of 4 foot 10 inches.

Placing ninth in their events were senior Emma Schwendeman in the 3200 running 12:46 and juniors Brittany Chamberlain and Brooke Harsh in the pole vault clearing 7 feet.

On Feb. 15, the girls competed again at YSU and Grantonic led the way again running a season best of 11:40 in the 3200-meter run and finishing in second place. She also started the 4x800 meter relay team of seniors Brandi Gatte, Trista Cunningham and Regan O’Hara. They placed second running a season best time of 10:37.46.

Hambrick placed third in the high jump with a season best of 5 feet and Chamberlain was seventh in the pole vault with a leap of 7 feet.

On Feb. 23, the girls competed at Kent State University with Hambrick leading the way finishing in second place in the high jump with a jump of 5 feet.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Schwendeman, Morrell, Regan O’Hara, and Haley Gianfrancesco placed second running 11:01. Junior thrower Ka’nisha White threw a season best of 35 feet 5 inches to place seventh in the shot put. Morrell came back to place 10th in the mile run with a time of 5:45. Junior Stephanie DeMain made it to the finals in the 60-meter high hurdles and placed 15th with a time of 10.73.
