WARREN
Tickets for Saturday’s boys basketball Division II District championship game at Warren Harding High are on sale today at the participating schools — Cardinal Mooney and Poland. Game time is 7 p.m. Advance tickets are $4 for students and $6 for adults.
Tickets at Mooney will be sold at the school office from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call the school at 330-788-5007.
Tickets are on sale from 8 a.m. to noon at Poland’s athletic office.
Junior high wrestlers at Covelli this weekend

The top junior high wrestlers in Ohio will compete this weekend in the OAC Junior High State Championships at the Covelli Centre. Among local wrestlers scheduled to compete:

Registration and weigh-in for the 2014 K.O. Drugs High School Boxing Tournament will be held Saturday and March 15 at the Eastwood Mall center court (next to Auntie Ann’s) in Niles.
Boxers interested in competing can stop any time between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to register. There is a $25 entry fee and parental consent is required.
The tournament will take place on Thursdays, March 27, April 3 and April 10 at the old South Range High School in North Lima.

Iditarod: Conditions cause 12 to drop out

Punishing conditions along the early part of Alaska’s nearly 1,000-mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race have brought many mushers literally to their knees, knocking some out of the running altogether. As of Thursday morning, 12 mushers had dropped out — at least one with a broken bone — and one was withdrawn, leaving 56 teams on the trail. Long stretches of bare ground made conditions treacherous hundreds of miles from the finish line in Nome on Alaska’s western coast.
Sports medicine pioneer Jobe dies

Dr. Frank Jobe, a pioneering orthopedic surgeon who was the first to perform an elbow procedure that became known as Tommy John surgery and saved the careers of countless major league pitchers, died Thursday. He was 88.
