Renowned physicist to speak as part of Skeggs Lecture Series

Renowned physicist and best-selling author Michio Kaku, whose pursuit to complete the “theory of everything” has brought him international attention, will discuss “Explorations in Science” 7:30 p.m. March 20, at Stambaugh Auditorium as part of Youngstown State University’s Skeggs Lecture Series.

Admission is free, but tickets are mandatory and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kaku is the author of two New York Times best sellers and also has hosted numerous documentaries on the Discovery Channel, the Science Channel and BBC-TV.

The Henry Semat Chair in Theoretical Physics at the City University of New York, Kaku graduated from Harvard University in 1968, earned a doctorate in physics from the University of California at Berkeley in 1972 and has been a professor at CUNY for almost 30 years.

His goal is to complete Einstein’s dream of a “theory of everything,” to derive an equation, perhaps no more than 1 inch long, that will summarize all the physical laws of the universe.

He is the co-founder of string field theory, a major branch of string theory, which is the leading candidate today for the theory of everything. His doctorate-level textbooks are required reading at many of the world’s leading physics laboratories.

Kaku is the author of several international best-sellers, including his two New York Times best-sellers, “Physics of the Future,” and “Physics of the Impossible.” For “Physics of the Future,” he interviewed 300 of the world’s top scientists, many of them Nobel laureates and directors of the largest scientific laboratories, about their vision for the next 20 to 100 years in various science and technology fields.

Kaku has appeared on the “Larry King Show,” “Nightline,” “60 Minutes,” “Good Morning America,” CNN, CNN-Financial, ABC-TV News, Fox News, BBC-TV, BBC-Radio, PBS’s “Nova” and “Innovation” and Tech-TV. He also appeared on the “David Letterman Show,” the “Colbert Report,” the “Conan O’Brien” show, HBO’s “Bill Maher Show” and has appeared on numerous science specials, including the BBC’s “Future Fantastic, Parallel Universes,” Channel 4’s “The Big G: The Story of Gravity,” the Learning Channel’s “Exodus Earth,” the History Channel’s “Universe” series and biography of Einstein and many other science documentaries.

Kaku hosts his own national weekly radio program called “Science Fantastic.” It is the largest nationally syndicated science-radio show on commercial radio in the United States. He has written in several publications, including Time, Discover and The Wall Street Journal.
