Mass. man’s excuse for speeding? I won the lottery!

HINGHAM, Mass.

A Massachusetts man busted for speeding had a pretty good excuse when he was pulled over: He had just won a big lottery prize and was on his way to collect his cash.

It turns out that last Thursday was 22-year-old Scott Lowe’s lucky day in more ways than one. The officer who pulled him over in Hingham issued a verbal warning and urged him to drive safely.

Lowe, of Rockland, told the officer he was speeding because he had won $50,000 on a scratch-off ticket and was on his way to Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters in Braintree to collect his winnings.

WCVB-TV reports that police say Lowe was shaking, and showed the officer his winning ticket.

After the warning, he went on his way and claimed his prize.

Cops: Pa. woman claimed to be sister when ticketed

POLK, Pa.

A western Pennsylvania woman has been jailed on forgery and other charges because state police say she identified herself as her sister when she was pulled over and given two traffic tickets, and again when she pleaded guilty before a district judge and was fined.

Troopers from the Franklin barracks say they arrested 38-year-old Angela Cogswell, of Grove City, last Friday.

Police say Cogswell was pulled over Nov. 5 and gave police her sister’s name, 37-year-old Tanya Best, of Rimersburg.

Cogswell then went to court in December and pleaded guilty to citations for driving with a suspended registration and without proof of insurance, even agreeing to a plan to pay the fines — all in Best’s name.

Best learned of the ruse when her license was suspended for six months.

Online court records don’t list a defense attorney.

Portland theft suspect wearing armored underwear

PORTLAND, Ore.

A man accused of using a cutting torch on a Portland ATM was wearing armored underwear when he was arrested.

KPTV reported that an officer responded to the ATM early Sunday and confronted him in a parking lot.

Police say he sprayed pepper spray and ran before he was chased down.

The 32-year-old man was wearing two ballistic vests and had ballistic panels sewn into undergarments covering his arms, legs, back and crotch.

He was armed with a knife and had a stun gun and acetylene torch in a backpack. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on multiple charges including being a felon in possession of body armor.
