Five sirens fail

YOUNGSTOWN

Five of Mahoning County’s 51 emergency warning sirens failed to activate for the three-minute annual test at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, said Dennis O’Hara, interim county emergency management director. They were at Campbell Memorial and Struthers high schools, the county engineer’s office, and Austintown Township government and Canfield maintenance buildings. O’Hara said his office will diagnose the problems and put them back in service. The test was performed during the statewide observance of Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Lunch & Learn

CANFIELD

Mahoning County Farm Bureau, Ohio State University Extension Office, and Deerfield Farms are sponsoring a “Lunch and Learn” event Friday at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. The event begins with registration and a social time at 11:30 a.m., with a cost of $5 for lunch at the door. Lunch will be served at 11:50.

The program will include an overall farm and dairy bill update with Dianne Shoemaker and Eric Barrett; a Farm Security Administration update on programs and deadlines with Jill Ritchie; an update on fertilizer legislation in Ohio with Ty Kellogg and Barrett; and Barrett will speak on grants and low-interest loan opportunities for farms.

Lake Park cleanup

Employees at Lake Park Cemetery, 1459 E. Midlothian Blvd., will begin the spring cleanup of cemetery grounds. People are asked to remove any artificial decorations, including Christmas wreaths, by March 15. For questions, call 330-782-4221.

Beatitude House

Beatitude House has received a $5,000 grant from The Thomases Family Endowment to support its life-altering services provided to the disadvantaged women and children it serves in Youngstown.

A House of Blessing Youngstown, located on the North Side, provides participants the opportunity to gain stability in their lives and achieve permanent housing. Beatitude House offers a holistic approach, providing education and support services to transform its clients’ lives to ultimately escape poverty.
