CAMPBELL
City police are investigating a report of several shots fired Wednesday in the area of Delmar Avenue and Chambers Street.
Police responded shortly before 9:30 p.m., and talked to several witnesses. All stated that the man who had fired the gun was a 28-year-old male resident of Jackson Street. Witnesses added that they’d seen him arguing, running down the street after the shots were fired, and even firing the gun itself.
Officers seized a bullet and a projectile found in the area as evidence.
Also Wednesday, police arrested two Pennsylvania residents on drug charges after initiating a speeding-related traffic stop on Upland Avenue.
When an officer approached the car at 3:45 p.m., he noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. In addition, the driver — identified as
Dinique Wilson, 25, of Mesabi Street in Sharon, Pa. — was found to have a suspended driver’s license.
Both Wilson and her passenger — Jermaine L. McKnight, 34, of Broadway Avenue in Wheatland, Pa. — said they’d been smoking marijuana in the car earlier, and that they’d left a piece in the center cup holder, which police later seized.
Police also confiscated 0.8 grams of suspected crack cocaine and $1,307 in cash, which they found in Wilson’s purse; a plastic spoon containing residue, found in the car’s center console; and $220 in cash, found on McKnight.
Wilson faces a fifth-degree felony drug possession charge and a first-degree misdemeanor drug possession charge, along with a
possession of drug paraphernalia charge. She was also cited for speeding and driving under suspension. Wilson was transported to the Mahoning County Justice Center, where she will remain until her Friday appearance in Campbell Municipal Court.
McKnight was charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, and also cited for failing to wear a seatbelt. He is set to appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
