Local home sales take a hit in January

January home sales declined across the Mahoning Valley, according to the latest statistics from the Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors.
A total of 283 homes were sold in January, compared with 297 homes during the same time the year before.
Only Trumbull County saw year-over-year gains, with 109 homes sold, compared with 99 in January of 2013. There, homes went for an average of $79,398, which was an improvement over last January’s average price of $73,307.
Prices ranged from $4,510 to $635,000, and total dollar value for homes sold in Trumbull stood at $8,654,392.
In Mahoning County, 123 homes were sold at an average price of $91,495 in January, compared with a total of 145 homes, which sold for $90,768 on average during the same time a year ago.
Those sales generated $11,253,935, down from last January when home sales accounted for $13,151,391.
Meanwhile, sales in Columbiana County dropped slightly from 53 last January to 51 two months ago. Home prices, ranging from $7,000 to $289,000, averaged $93,964, up from $83,849 in January 2013.
Total sales generated increased slightly to $4,792,157 from $4,444,001 the year before.
