Patrick J. O’Connor, a teacher at Kent State University, has released a new book, “Meet Me at Ray’s: A Celebration of Ray’s Place in Kent, Ohio.”
Ray’s Place, synonymous with Kent State University and Kent, Ohio, has a storied history dating back to 1937.
O’Connor tells the story of Ray’s using humorous and poignant personal anecdotes, letting readers understand its important role in the community.
He collected stories from 1943 to the present and uses them to feature the history of the eatery and its owners, including Charlie Thomas, who has owned it since 1978.
Photos and artwork help bring to life the tale of this iconic place.
Ohio author writes children’s book
“Junie Balloonie & The Perfect Cheer” is about a girl who joins a cheerleading team. Junie struggles to do a cartwheel, but through the support of her teammates, and perseverance, she overcomes her fears and finds success.
This is the first published book for author Amie J. Longstaff. She resides with her family in Northeast Ohio and enjoys reading to children in goofy voices, writing and illustrating more stories, and reminding everyone she meets that we get one life.

Neil Young working on second memoir

Neil Young is not done with writing memoirs.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has a deal with Blue Rider Press for a book focusing on his passion for cars, while also featuring stories about his life in music.
Blue Rider, an imprint of Penguin Random House, told The Associated Press that the new book is scheduled for the fall and is still untitled.
Young’s first memoir, “Waging Heavy Peace,” was a best-seller published by Blue Rider in 2012.
Ex-Fed chair Ben Bernanke plans book

Ben Bernanke, who stepped down in January after eight years as chairman of the Federal Reserve, is planning a memoir.
Bernanke told The Associated Press that he will focus not just on the defining moment of his time at the Fed, the 2008 financial crisis, but on the “Great Recession” that followed.
Bernanke, 60, says he will cover his entire career at the Fed, starting in 2002, when he joined the Board of Governors.
He was appointed chairman in 2006 by President George W. Bush, a Republican, and reappointed four years later by President Barack Obama, a Democrat.
Geithner memoir to be called ‘Stress Test’
NEW YORK
Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner’s memoir has a title, “Stress Test,” and a release date, May 13.
Geithner signed with Crown Publishers last year for a book about his handling of the financial crisis while in the Obama administration and, before that, at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
The title was announced recently by Crown. It refers to the reviews that financial institutions undergo to determine how they would cope with economic adversity.
