New fire station to open Wednesday
YOUNGSTOWN
City officials will cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the new $930,000 Fire Station 9 at Ipe Field, 1624 E. Midlothian Blvd., at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The new station, which replaces the one at Midlothian Boulevard and Sheridan Road, is strategically located near Interstate 680 to allow a fast response to a fire anywhere in the city.
One of the new station’s trucks will be staffed at all times, and another truck based there will be used as a reserve vehicle in case of multiple alarms.
Free appraisals at Hubbard library
HUBBARD
Hubbard Public Library will host a free appraisal event Monday featuring Jeff Byce, appraiser for Byce Auction. Objects for appraisal should be items small enough for one person to carry without difficulty, with each participant bringing no more than three items. Participants will be admitted to the appraisal beginning at 5:15 p.m. via a numbering system; the actual program starts at 5:30 p.m.
Learn to paint
MERCER, PA.
Munnell Run Farm, 753 Greenville Road, will welcome guest artisan Lauren Sheridan for a “Pigs and Paint: One Session Canvas Painting Series” event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 24. Sheridan has a bachelor’s degree in art education and a master’s in education, and is equipped to teach participants how to paint an 11x14-inch canvas with Gerbera daisies. No art experience is required, and all materials are provided.
Cost is $25; register by March 17 by calling 724-662-2242 and asking for Jacqueline.
Meet the candidate
SHARON, PA.
The Mercer County Democrat Committee will host a meet and greet with Dan Lavalle, a Democratic candidate for representative of Pennsylvania’s 3rd district, Thursday at committee headquarters, 16 Vine Ave.
Lavalle will be present at 6:30 p.m. to meet as many people as possible. There is no cost for the event. Refreshments will be provided.
