METRO DIGEST || Hill loses another bid to stop execution

Hill bid denied

CLEVELAND

Convicted killer Danny Lee Hill has lost another bid to stop his execution for the murder of Raymond Fife in 1985.

A federal appeals court Wednesday struck down Hill’s motion to stop his execution because of his claim that he is mentally disabled.

Hill was trying to halt his execution based on the 8th Amendment of the constitution, which his attorneys said bars the execution of offenders who are mentally disabled, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.

The court ruled against several of Hill’s claims in which his attorneys contend he was ineffectively represented by trial counsel and that he is mentally disabled.

Hill has been claiming since 2002 that he should not be put to death because he is mentally disabled, and each claim has been rejected by various courts. He has been on death row since 1986.
