Annual orthopedic and safety fair

WARREN

The annual orthopedic and safety fair at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday.

This free community event, open to all ages, will be in the hospital’s main parking area at 1350 E. Market St.

The event includes a variety of health and community displays, free health screenings, safety and health information, a blood drive for the American Red Cross, kids’ fingerprinting, a smoke safety trailer, bike and car seat safety tips, and a texting-while-driving simulator. Orthopedic and emergency physicians and staff will be on hand to answer questions.

Adults and kids can test their throwing skills at a dunking booth that will serve as a fundraiser for Warren Family Mission, a nonprofit, faith-based family resource center dedicated to serving residents of Trumbull County.

A firetruck, ambulance and helicopter will provide kids and adults a close-up view of emergency vehicles. Hot dogs, snacks and refreshments will also be available.

Registration for Safe Sitter program

YOUNGSTOWN

Registration for the first session of the 2014 Safe Sitter program, sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners, closes today.

Classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren. The course will be repeated July 9 and 10 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, July 23 and 24 at St. Joseph Health Center in Warren, and Aug. 6 and 7 at St. Elizabeth.

The two-day course teaches boys and girls 11 to 13 basic first aid, rescue breathing, accident prevention, child-care tips, what to do if a child chokes and how and when to call for help.

The cost is $28.50. Scholarships are available for those who meet financial eligibility requirements.

Immunization clinic

NILES

The Niles Health Department, 34 W. State St., is offering a children’s immunization clinic from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. July 2 and 16.

No appointment is needed. No one will be refused service because of inability to pay.

Children should be feeling well, with no illness, fever or rash. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Starter yoga classes

WARREN

Beginning yoga is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. each Monday, July 7 through Aug. 18, at St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland Ave.

Certified yoga instructor Dawn Perhacs will lead the adults-only class. Cost is $58 per person ($44 for employees of Humility of Mary Health Partners).

Grant awarded

YOUNGSTOWN

The Ruth Beecher Charitable Trust, through the PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee, recently awarded Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. a $3,500 grant to continue the work of the VIP Workplace Program. The goal of the program is to change individual and corporate attitudes about workplace and domestic violence and to reach the VIP Family Violence Prevention Coalition goal of safe families, safe workplaces and safe communities.

The coalition service area includes Youngstown and Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
